Reimbursement Manager/Director

We are looking to fill an open Reimbursement Manager/Director role.

The Reimbursement Manager/Director serves to execute successful public and private coverage and payment policies in coordination with the business units of SANUWAVE Health. This position will help recognize, assess, and communicate key coverage and reimbursement policy issues that may impact SANUWAVE Health Inc. This position will also focus on the impact of public and private sector trends on SANUWAVE Health with respect to patient access, reimbursement, and customer satisfaction.


  • Secure positive coverage policies with public and private healthcare plans (Medicare, Medicaid, TriCare, commercial and others) technology assessment organization determinations and in assisting with provider access to SANUWAVE Health’s technologies in coordination with Sales and Marketing and the goals and objectives of the organization.
  • Develop and cultivate customer relationships necessary in supporting the creation and execution of SANUWAVE Health’s coverage policies. These outside customer relationships include members of CMS, as well as others in the private payor market(s).
  • Develop and articulate effective reimbursement coverage strategies which integrate and support business objectives that are impactful, executable, easily communicated, and clinically/financially supported.
  • Determine which credentials are legally necessary for application.
  • Determine requirements for CMS and commercial payor guidelines and reimbursement.
  • Identify acceptable care setting(s) for use.
  • Understand documentation guidelines.
  • Determine preventable strategies to mitigate risk.
  • Determine compelling evidence.
  • Develop relationship with SANUWAVE Sales leader to support the tandem growth of both areas.
  • Identify ICD-10/HCPCS code(s) for billing purposes.
  • Explain claim denial process and support by SANUWAVE for tracking/re-filing Enable business strategy by designing, planning and executing clinical strategies aligned with SANUWAVE’s business needs.
  • Professionally define clinical study parameters, deliverables and direction, and provide guidance, expertise and oversight support to Clinical Affairs personnel.
  • Build relationships and represent SANUWAVE in the medical and scientific community, cultivating outside partners and resources for clinical studies.
  • Demonstrate leadership to enhance team processes and work across functions to accomplish the goals of Clinical Affairs, and SANUWAVE.
  • Maintain and ensure your Quality Training records are up to date at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding US healthcare market mechanisms both public and private, federal regulatory bodies that monitor and implement health programs, healthcare coverage development and the administrative structure of funding sources for government agencies.
  • Maintaining continuous learning and working knowledge of the healthcare industry, strategic development, payer decision making, medical therapies and medical devices and their competition.
  • Provide education and training to healthcare plans, providers and other parties on efficacy and economic benefit of SANUWAVE Health’s products as well as comparative effectiveness and technology assessment.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of health care coverage activity regionally, interpret for business impact and participate in cross-functional projects internally or externally to influence and enhance SANUWAVE Health’s position within changing environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, including the capability of applying previous experience to complex healthcare coverage and reimbursement issues.
  • Ability to write and edit documents (i.e. emails, letters, and power point presentations) clearly and succinctly in a timely manner, as well as the ability to ensure content accuracy, appropriate tone, and attention to detail to ensure work is of superior quality.
  • Additional experience in wound care, outcomes research, technical/clinical writing and/or technology assessment a plus.
  • Strong ability in utilizing evidence to support value proposition.
  • Solid understanding of private and public payer (Medicare, Medicaid and other public health programs), coverage and payment policy process required.
  • Results oriented.

  • Travel required- variable at 30%. Travel can potentially be greater.

Qualifications (Experience, Education, Licenses and Certification)

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree (MBA, MS a plus).
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in medical device public and private coverage, reimbursement and government affairs required.
  • Additional experience in wound care, outcomes research, technical/clinical writing and/or technology assessment a plus.
  • Travel required- variable at 30%. Travel can potentially be greater.
